about us:Our purpose is to give voice to refugee stories, honor their lives, and raise awareness of the millions of refugees in the world who have been forced to flee their homes. The World Refugee Day Chicago committee comes together each year on or around June 20 to recognize refugees' journeys to their new homes through celebration and education. We are comprised of staff, volunteers and interested persons from various nonprofits focused on welcoming and serving refugees. 2010 committee members:Dan Amick - Loyola UniversityStephanie Baldwin - Pan-African Association Emma Bohorfoush - Interfaith Refugee and Immigration Ministries Julie Carlsen - Exodus World ServiceEric Christianson - Pan-African AssociationDarwensi Clark - Heartland Human Care ServicesSarah Moskowitz - Ethiopian Community Association of Chicago Alexandra Hill - Ethiopian Community Association of Chicago Kara Hook, Pan-African AssociationEli Marsh - Changing Worlds Lauren Perez -Heartland Human Care ServicesFlutra Sahatqija - Heartland Health Outreach Dr. Ed Silverman -Illinois Department of Human Services – Bureau of Refugee and Immigrant ServicesLaura Vermette -Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago John Weatherly |
